TERRAPIN FLY REEL Series:
We spent nearly 4 years in research and design work and one year of field testing to create the best sealed drag fly reel we possibly could. The goal this time was a 100% sealed drag fly reel that would again rival the big name manufacturers but at a fraction of the price. Once again, we have accomplished this goal!
Producing a whopping 14lbs of drag out of the box, the Terrapin is ready to take on anything from Trout to Tuna! That’s more than three times the power of reels that cost three times as much! These fly reels were designed for a serious fight. We also listened to our customers that own the Torrent, our staple reel. They wanted a 100% sealed drag system that was still serviceable, lighter weight, smoother startup, slightly larger arbor, slightly larger handle and an equal drag power. The Terrapin features all of those things!
All the reels in the Terrapin series are machined from 6061 T-6 bar stock aluminum and are type II double anodized for maximum durability. The drag surface of the Terrapin is made up of stacked Rulon discs, a material rather new to the fly reel industry that has unbelievable tolerances. Rulon is rated for CONSTANT operating temperature ranging from –400*F to 550*F and has zero water absorption! Rulon is by far a better drag surface choice over carbon fiber and cork. The drag system housing itself acts as the spindle for the reel making it incredibly strong under severe stress. This system is also completely maintenance free! The drag is activated by an oversized clutch bearing which in its water tight housing is extremely reliable. This engagement system is impervious to extreme cold and extreme heat. No “Free Spooling” to worry about on this reel. All in all, you have a reel that is built to last for generations at an affordable price. Your grand children will enjoy them when their time comes.
